What is Power League?
What is Power League?
The KVA Power league is a competitive league for 4th-6th grade girls, with a strong emphasis on training. Tryouts are held before each spring and fall season, choosing enough players to form either 6, 9, or 12 teams.
The season lasts approximately 10 weeks, with 1 practice per week and 1 competition day per week. Teams play 2 full matches (4 games) on each competition day, then end the season with a 2 day tournament, with all players receiving a medal.
Custom scoring methods are used early in the season to encourage the girls to play 3-touch volleyball, rather than just bump the ball back over the net. Over hand serving is allowed, and encouraged, but not required. The use of an overhand 3rd hit is also rewarded as the season progresses.
The cost for Power League is $135.
Fall Power League Roster
Congratulations to the following players who will be competing this year in our Fall Power League. We will be forming 4 Divisions this season. Placement within those divisions will be based on skill level. Evaluations will take place the first few practices before teams are formed.
We are excited about this seasons Power League. We have a very qualified coaching staff and look forward to some great improvements in each of the players.

Which program do I choose?
KVA has developed a natural step by step program to help develope players.
FALL AND SPRING POWER LEAGUE: $135
Besides our camp opportunities, the first step for 4th-6th graders is to tryout and take part in the Fall and Spring Power League. Cost for Power League is $135, and the season is approximately 10 weeks long. It involves 1 practice per week and 1 competition day per week. A numbered Tshirt is given for competition.
KVA KIDS CLUB DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM: $1000
The next step is the KVA Kids Club Developmental program. This program is a new addition to KVA this season is a natural next step for strong 5th and 6th graders. The tryout process and selection is a little tougher than the Power League, with only the top players being selected and placed on a 12 & Under Developemental team. These teams compete in the USVBA sanctioned tournaments in Houston. Cost for the Developmental program is $1000 and will run approximately 5 months. Players receive a numbered Tshirt and a pair of shorts for competition.
KVA CLUB SEASON: $1750
The final step in a players development is the KVA Club season. The tryout process and selection is even tougher, with only the most developed and competitive girls receiving roster positions on a KVA team. These teams also compete in the USVBA sanctioned tournaments, will will involve a little more travel. Some 6th graders will be selected to play on a 12 & under team without having to go through the developmental season. Cost for the regular club season this year is $1750 and will run approximately 5 months. Players receive 2 jerseys, 2 pair of spandex, a full warmup, and travel bag. They practice twice a week and play in 2 tournaments per month.

What is club ball?
What is club ball?
USAV is a national organization, which promotes and organizes training and competition at the local, regional and national levels. There are over 30 clubs in the Houston area alone.
The level of play in club ball is much higher than that found in local recreational leagues and some school programs. Club experience is important in developing as a player. Most, if not all, girls who make their high school teams (not to mention those that go on to win college scholarships) play club ball.
Clubs have tryouts during the summer, prior to the start of the school season. Teams begin practice after the school season ends in mid-November, and then begin playing tournaments on weekends starting in December. The KVA club season ends in mid to late April.
The focus of the club experience is to improve individual play, teamwork, and competitive spirit. This is done through team practice and tournament play. Tournaments usually last all day.
Who is KVA?
Katy Volleyball Academy began in 1994. We started with camps and have grown into a year-round training program. We boast of excellent summer camps, Fall and Spring Power Leagues, a 5 month USAV club season, and are adding a full Developmental program this coming season, as well as an off-season program.
Why KVA?
KVA is a member of the USAV organization, and is well respected by the Lone Star Region. The goal of the Directors is to have a club that trains players to play to their full potential. We work hard to exemplify an organization known for its class, organizational ability, integrity, and professionalism. With this goal in mind, coaches are carefully selected. Players will receive excellent instruction and experience competition levels that will help them to improve their skills.
How do I get started in club volleyball?
Players trying out for the club must show skill, determination, attitude, heart, and desire. Players must also exemplify a coachable attitude and be team players. At the older age groups, they are also selected by position needs.
If you already know you like volleyball and want to learn more, we invite you to try out for our club. Our program is for ages 11-16, practices twice a week, and competes in 9 tournaments. (Approximately 2 tournaments a month)

Aug 11, 12, 14, 15 ~ 8th Grade Tuneup Camp ~ closed
8th grade only ~ $110 ~ 6-9 pm
Junior High tune-ups are the favorite camp of the summer for KVA campers. High-energy coaching and fast tempo drills help campers with previous volleyball experience get back into shape and brush up those skills before school tryouts. Lots of hard work and desire are required!!!
No beginners for the tune-up camps, please. To qualify for a tune-up camp, players must have attended a Skills camp, (KVA or other) or played 1 year or more of school, club, or KVA Power League.

CLUB NEWS
NEWS *** NEWS *** NEWS *** NEWS *** NEWS *** NEWS
We are very excited about the way the 2008-2009 club season is shaping up for KVA!
Here are some of the new things you will see:
Head Coach Emil Chuidian - Emil lives in Katy, and has been coaching for Pearland Juniors for several years. He is also the assistant coach at Prairie View A&M, which competes in the NCAA Division 1 Southwestern Conference. Emil will be coaching our coaches, as well as one of the teams. The discussions we have had with him have excited us, and we are anxious to get going!
Developmental Director Danielle Wells - Danielle is a graduate of Faith West Academy, played college volleyball in Florida, and is currently the coach of the freshman A team at Cinco Ranch High School, as well as the assistant varsity coach. She will oversee our new developmental program for girls 10-12, which will begin a few weeks after the club season gets underway.
Parent Coordinator- Jeff Fenton will be observing all of our teams during the season, and will be available to the parents to answer all those questions about lineups, scoring, substitutions, positions, and tournaments. He, along with wife Diana, will be assisting with the website, communications, tournament information, uniform ordering, etc.
Parent Orientation - at the request of several of our coaches, we will be holding “training sessions” for all parents, in hopes that some of those questions can be answered before they are asked!!!
A new look - We have made a few changes to our club’s colors, including the uniforms. We are adding purple, and reducing the yellow. Our new colors are reflected on our website. We will also provide warm-up pants for all club division players this year, instead of just the jacket.
A new schedule - all of our Club Division teams will attend a major tournament early in the season and another one to end the season. All of these will be in Texas, typically in San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, or Houston, so we don’t anticipate having any “local” teams, only state level teams. Most parents really enjoy the early away tournament, where parents can get to know each other, and players can begin to establish team chemistry both on & off the court.
